Apart from subtitle translation and QC, one of the tasks I was assigned in the past was Test Assesments. I was evaluating new translators’ tests. At first, it was fun because I was focusing on a different task other than everyday tasks. But then it hit me with the pressure of the “making decision” because I had to decide who would be on board , who would not be. I didn’t have such training, solely trusting my language skills. When there’s a “bad” translation or “good” translation it was not a problem to decide but challenge was when you were stucked in the middle. I think Jan Pedersen‘s FAR model can be helpful assesing the quality in subtitle translation and making evaluation process healthier. Check it out.
